turning inside

These days I turn inside – Not only because the days get shorter and cooler with the colder season to come – I also turn inside myself. My mind holds still, reflects, thinks and tries to put some thoughts into order.

I think about this life. About our purpose, about why we are here and for what we strive. I see that I have to correct my intentions. I see that my thoughts often (unconsciously) are much influenced by our consumerist age: believing that we deserve a perfect, good, happy and healthy life.

But suddenly I feel that I have to focus more on the true meaning of our life on this earth. I have to remind myself of our final destination.
I have to stop and to pause. I have to switch my focus from dunya (this worldly life) to akhira (the hereafter).
I have to remember that we are not here to expect a perfect life without difficulties, pain, lost and sadness. We are not here to wait that life showers us with everything we yearn for. We are not here to wait that all our wishes come true and everything goes smooth. We are not here to expect that life offers us all we hope for.
We are NOT here to expect paradise on this earth.
No.
We are here to be tested.
We should try to act in our most perfect way despite all difficulties and struggles.
We are here to be grateful for what we have and what we got, may it be little or big, may it seem good or bad.
We are here to better ourselves with every mundane act.
We are here only to prove, despite all the struggles, that we deserve Allah’s mercy (by worship and good deeds).

We are here to strive for paradise AFTER death.
I have to change my point of view.
I have to remind my soul that this life isn’t about striving for material goods or about waiting for a perfect everyday-life. I have to remember that every problem we face (at home, at work, in our marriage or with our children, concerning health or material wealth), if welcomed with patience and an “Alhamdulillah” instead of an angry “sh…”, might lead us in the end to something much better.
I have to remind my self that every calamity we face with strength and patience, and everything good we do for the sake of Allah, will be our bonus on the day of judgement.

I remember that it is said that Allah tests those most, which He loves most.
Instead of getting disappointed about trials, I have to remind myself that, if I try to see every test as a blessing, these tests become a gift and a chance, a promise of mercy, a source of hope and a way to hopefully gain His pleasure, inchaallah.

Welcome Autumn!

Welcome Autumn – we love you!

Time to harvest the red-golden gifts of nature; time to put on socks and a long-sleeved sweater; time to breath the fresh air; time for  flying kites and running through the fallen leaves; time to switch more inside the home, to craft or to crawl together under a blanket and to pick up a book…

I’ve finally updated our books-list and I’ve added some new categories there, go have a look…
happy weekend and happy autumn to you!

Garden Notes

It’s the first year we have set a real garden in front of our house. And now, with entering autumn’s season, most of the harvest is already done. It was such a blessing to have every day: fresh basil, tomatoes, salad, fennel, potatoes, onions, carrots, peaches, mint, beetroot, dill and other things right at hand.
Where in the past sand and dust were lying on the ground, there grew this year herbs, vegetables, fruits and lovely flowers, alhamdulilah!
I do not have as much as time as I wished to care for these little fields and we are not proficient gardeners at all, we are still learning a lot. Some of the fruits didn’t grow very well and I still don’t know when it’s the best time to pick some of the things and how to get them out of the earth best…
But even though, it is a blessing to have a garden. It is such a blessing to see how something beautiful, edible and healthy grows out of grey dirt, with the help of some water, nice treatment and the mercy of Allah, subhanallah oua taala.
During the holidays and in the free time we have now, I love to spend moments in the garden, to fill up my batteries, alone and with the children: picking out something here, or a flower there, digging in earth, smelling mother nature, working by hand and enjoying.
I am thankful for the gift of calling some piece of lands “ours”, to care for it and to enjoy what it offers.

It is a blessing to see something growing which you planted yourself, even if it is just a herbal pot on your window.

For the work with children, I recommend the garden-books of Lena Anderson and Christina Björk. They are lovely written and very nicely drawn, and simply perfect to learn more about nature and gardening/ window-gardening.

Simply Breakfast and a Quote – { this moment }

Between preparing lessons, organizing household and beginning a new school’s day, I take a sip, breathe… and simply BE.

Happy Friday!

Back to school’11

Here’s busy with last preparations for the beginning of a new school year: building, cleaning, and painting, sorting out, planning and making everything ready for our students, a new teacher and ten new children, mashallah.

It’s a big amount to do, a huge responsibility but also a whole lot of excitement, alhamdulillah.

This project still needs your support!
So please, check-out our website www.ecolevivante.com for more information and about how to help us.
Thank you so much!
